This week, our STEAM class finished their first big project, grant writing! It was eye-opening! We had the pleasure of hosting the mother of one of our students that writes grants for a living. It was such a great learning experience and the students got some valuable information from her presentation.

One of the hardest obstacles for us to initially overcome was helping the students find grants that they found interesting. Many students were unaware of what a grant is, how they work, and how intensive the application process can be. Once students had their initial draft of their application completed they worked on peer edits before submitting a final rough draft for teacher comments. Overall there were some amazing ideas on how to improve our school culture and environment!

Another aspect of the writing process was learning how to budget. Students learned how to create their budget using Google Sheets. Along with how to create a general budget, they learned how to utilize formulas and many formatting skills. It was a great learning experience for the students both for this project and for real life!
